Lab-in-a-Box Brings Hands-On Science Closer to Ilocos Norte Through Teachers’ Training and School Visits

Updated: 2 days ago

Ilocos Norte, June 4, 2025 — Thirteen science teachers from six different schools in the City of Batac participated in a one-day training workshop held at Ferdinand E. Marcos Senior High School. The activity was organized by the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) Lab-in-a-Box team, in collaboration with Dr. Erwin Enriquez of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Science and Engineering (SoSE).

The training focused on the full utilization of the Lab-in-a-Box Chemistry and Physics Kits, designed to support teachers in delivering immersive, hands-on science lessons. Participants were guided through the use of key experiments and worksheets to help them confidently integrate the kits into their teaching practices.

This activity is part of the Lab-in-a-Box initiative to improve access to quality science education, especially in underserved and remote schools. By providing compact, ready-to-use laboratory kits, the project aims to address the lack of science equipment in many classrooms and help teachers bring abstract concepts to life through practical demonstrations.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The Lab-in-a-Box team extends its gratitude to Ms Pepsi Duldulao, Head Teacher III at the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of the City of Batac, for her warm hospitality and support in facilitating the training.

In addition to the teachers' training, the Lab-in-a-Box team also visited four schools in Batac City—General Artemio Ricarte Senior High School, Batac National High School, City of Batac National High School – Payao, and IGAMA Colleges Foundation, Inc. During these school visits, the team introduced Lab-in-a-Box as an innovative solution to the lack of laboratory facilities and equipment, raising awareness about how the kits can make hands-on science learning more accessible to students.
