San Fernando, La Union – June 5, 2025 — The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office’s Lab-in-a-Box team conducted a teachers training session on the effective use of the Physics Kit in classroom instruction at the La Union Cultural Institute in San Fernando, La Union. A total of eleven science teachers participated in the one-day training program.
The Lab-in-a-Box Physics Kit developed by Dr Ivan Culaba of the Physics Department at the Ateneo de Manila University School of Science and Engineering (SoSE), introduces fundamental concepts in geometric optics, and the training covers how light rays behave as they pass through different media and how images are formed using various lenses. These concepts were demonstrated in a clear and engaging way—even in broad daylight—highlighting the kit’s versatility.

The session aimed to equip educators with the skills and confidence needed to transform traditional classroom instruction into interactive and hands-on science experiences using the Lab-in-a-Box Kit. Through practical demonstrations and guided activities, teachers explored how to make abstract physics concepts more tangible and engaging for students.
On the same day, the Lab-in-a-Box team also visited BHC Educational Institution to introduce the kits and raise awareness about its potential to address the shortage of laboratory resources in schools. The visit highlighted how Lab-in-a-Box serves as an innovative and portable solution for institutions that lack access to conventional lab facilities.

This initiative is part of the broader mission of Lab-in-a-Box to make quality science education more accessible, especially in underserved areas. By providing tools that support experiential learning, the program contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and fostering innovation.
The La Union training marks another step in the Lab-in-a-Box journey to empower educators across the country, helping bridge the gap in science learning through practical, low-cost, and high-impact solutions.
