: MANILA

A different Manila experience
MANILA
There’s more to the bay than sunsets and seawalls. Xperience: Manila brings you to the edge of the capital—where mangroves, marshes, and coastal communities are fighting for survival against pollution and neglect.
In this powerful 3-week program, you’ll explore one of the Philippines’ most important yet overlooked ecosystems: the Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park, a protected sanctuary teeming with migratory birds, saltwater forests, and stories from the sea. Walk alongside conservationists, meet fisherfolk whose livelihoods depend on the health of Manila Bay, and get your hands dirty through beach cleanups and waste audits that drive real behavioral change.
Your journey doesn’t stop at the coastline. You’ll also spend a day at the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm—where social impact meets local innovation. Hear from young changemakers, explore sustainable enterprises in action, and discover how Filipino communities are building inclusive, empowered futures from the ground up.
Whether you’re tracing the path of a migratory bird, learning how plastic enters our food system, or sitting with a fisherman as he explains what’s changed in the water over the years—this isn’t just a cleanup. It’s a deep dive into environmental justice, sustainability, and the powerful relationship between people and place.
Here's what you'll do in Manila:
Step into one of Metro Manila’s last remaining wetlands and experience environmental advocacy firsthand. Walk through mangroves, marshes, and beach forests—each playing a vital role in climate resilience and biodiversity.
-
Join fisherfolk and conservationists in hands-on activities: from bird watching and ecosystem tours to coastal cleanups and waste audits that uncover the hidden costs of consumption.
-
Listen to real stories from communities who depend on a damaged bay—and are fighting to restore it.
-
This isn’t just environmental tourism. It’s conservation through connection, action, and accountability.

While observing them in their natural habitat, you’ll gain insight into how global biodiversity depends on local conservation—and how the disappearance of such habitats disrupts entire ecosystems.
