There’s more to the bay than sunsets and seawalls. Xperience: Manila brings you to the edge of the capital—where mangroves, marshes, and coastal communities are fighting for survival against pollution and neglect.

In this powerful 3-week program, you’ll explore one of the Philippines’ most important yet overlooked ecosystems: the Las Piñas–Parañaque Wetland Park, a protected sanctuary teeming with migratory birds, saltwater forests, and stories from the sea. Walk alongside conservationists, meet fisherfolk whose livelihoods depend on the health of Manila Bay, and get your hands dirty through beach cleanups and waste audits that drive real behavioral change.

Whether you’re tracing the path of a migratory bird, learning how plastic enters our food system, or sitting with a fisherman as he explains what’s changed in the water over the years—this isn’t just a cleanup. It’s a deep dive into environmental justice, sustainability, and the powerful relationship between people and place.

Bird Watching

In the wetlands of Las Piñas and Parañaque, you’ll witness the breathtaking sight of migratory birds that travel thousands of kilometers along the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.

These birds, many of which are threatened or vulnerable, depend on this protected area as a critical resting and feeding ground. While observing them in their natural habitat, you’ll gain insight into how global biodiversity depends on local conservation—and how the disappearance of such habitats disrupts entire ecosystems.

Explore the vibrant and often overlooked wetland ecosystems of Metro Manila, where mangroves, beach forests, and salt marshes play a crucial role in protecting coastal communities.

These natural landscapes serve as storm barriers, reduce flooding, and act as nurseries for marine life that sustains thousands of local families. Get hands-on with one of the most pressing environmental issues facing Manila Bay: waste pollution. During this activity, you’ll join a beach clean-up that goes beyond surface action.

Join a hands-on beach clean-up tackling Manila Bay’s waste problem. As you collect trash, conduct a waste audit to track the types and sources of pollution. This data supports real advocacy efforts targeting consumer habits and policy change. Learn how daily choices and systemic issues contribute to pollution, and how you can help drive lasting environmental solutions.

What are the accommodation arrangements?

Accommodations will be shared, with all rooms being double occupancy. A maximum of 3 participants may be assigned to a room (only available in the Silicon Valley). Accommodation arrangements in Japan will strictly be 2 per room.
What about the Japan Visa?

Leave a Nest will provide a letter for the Japan Visa application. The visa processing will be done in approximately 10 days. An agent will coordinate the visa process as part of the package.
What is the objective of Ateneo IPO Tech Xplore: Japan?

The objectives of Ateneo IPO Tech Xplore: Japan are to inspire and encourage students to pursue technopreneurship, provide experiential learning form successful startup ecosystems, and foster collaboration among entrepreneurs and innovators.
What does the program fee include?

What about the US Visa?

Assistance will be provided through a travel agency, but the fees will not be covered by the program. If your visa will not be approved, a refund will be given. Reservation for your slot is needed as soon as possible so that a letter can be provided for the embassy.

The only things you need to bring are your personal QR ticket and your essentials. Food and water are not allowed inside the Hyundai Hall, and you will be asked to park these items outside the Hall's entrance.
