IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future

In celebration of Intellectual Property (IP) Week 2022, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) is hosting a webinar on "IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future" on Monday, 25 April 2022 at 2 - 4 pm via zoom.
This event is also in connection with the World Intellectual Property Day 2022’s theme that focuses on IP and youth innovating for a better future. This is an opportunity to highlight the role that IP rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity in our young people.

Innovation programmes often focus on generating ideas, but the transition from an idea to something commercially or operationally useful also depends on understanding ownership, licensing, confidentiality, and the obligations created when an innovation enters a formal agreement. That becomes particularly relevant when young innovators move beyond academic projects and begin working with manufacturers, investors, research partners, or technology providers. Intellectual property protection can preserve the value of an invention, while contract terms determine how that value is shared, transferred, or restricted in practice. A useful additional consideration is the point at which an innovation becomes dependent on third-party rights, since an original concept can still encounter commercial limitations if software, designs, data, or patented processes are incorporated without appropriate permissions.…
