The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office congratulates four of its staff members: Dr Jon Fernandez, Mr George "GQ" Quitoriano, Mr Steve Chaves, and Ms Vanessa Malapit; who were awarded during the 48th University Service Awards last 04 March 2026 by the Ateneo de Manila University in recognition for their years of service.
Dr Proceso "Jon" Fernandez Jr has been the Director of the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) since 2019. He is a computer science professor at Ateneo de Manila University, and he earned his master's and doctorate degrees in computer science from Ateneo de Manila University. He is also a certified IP specialist, innovation educator, and advocate for AI in R&D. Over the years, Dr Jon has participated in and contributed to numerous science and technology research initiatives.
Mr George "GQ" Quitoriano is a Resident Entrepreneur at the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office. He is also the former AVP of Nestlé Philippines, Inc. and the current Guru of the Master in Entrepreneurship program of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business. With a deep commitment to Entrepreneurial Leadership, Mr. Quitoriano has dedicated his career to guiding individuals and organizations in transforming ideas into impactful ventures.
Mr Steve Maverick Chaves is currently the Ideation Support Head in AIPO where he holds activities that lead to IP generation. He is an internationally trained Design Thinking facilitator under the Design Thinkers Academy in the Netherlands. Steve has facilitated design thinking workshops to international startup founders, government agencies, and private corporations in the country. Steve has a master’s degree in technology management from the University of the Philippines and is now finishing his Doctor of Philosophy in Business Leadership Studies at Ateneo de Manila University, focusing on experiential learning to promote innovative behavior in work environments.
Ms. Vanessa Malapit is the ITSO Manager and Head of the Protection and Education Group of the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO). Under her leadership, Ateneo attained Palladium Status in 2025 and achieved Platinum Status for five consecutive years since 2020, distinctions awarded by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). She earned her master’s degree in Environmental Science from Ateneo de Manila University and is a graduate of the CopyrightX program of WIPO–Harvard Law School. Ms. Malapit has also actively contributed to various science and technology research initiatives, bringing her expertise in intellectual property management and education to support innovation and academic excellence.
