Empowering Sustainable Change: Filipino Students and Professionals Win Big at SRT Innovation Contest

A burst of creativity and innovation filled the IPOPHL Multi-purpose Hall in Taguig City on Thursday, November 24, 2023, as the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) hosted the "Use of Patent Information for Development and Utilization of Socially Relevant Technologies (SRT) in the Philippines Year 4" event. The day celebrated groundbreaking ideas and solutions aimed at making a positive impact on society and the environment.


Redefining Rainwater Harvesting for a Better Future

This year's spotlight was on ideas showcasing inventive rainwater harvesting technologies designed to tackle climate change's social and environmental challenges. The goal is clear: to contribute to a better society and foster overall development.


The event recognized Filipino innovations in green or environmentally friendly technologies with a focus on being less harmful to the environment and more resource-efficient which aligns with global sustainability goals.


The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) represented by Engr Benjamin Mirasol was invited to serve as one of the distinguished judges during the contest, adding a wealth of expertise during the evaluation process.

Cheers to Filipino Innovators

High schools, universities, and even professionals from across the country participated in the SRT Innovation Contest, bringing forth their best ideas. In the Youth Category, Bansud National High School-Regional Science High School for MIMAROPA stole the spotlight with their "Chitosan-Loaded Cellulosic (CLC) Membrane for Wastewater Filtration." Their innovative project not only claimed the first prize of Php 50,000 but also earned them the Most Loved Video Entry Award.

For the professional Category, Session Groceries of Baguio City bagged the first prize of Php 100,000 for their food processing technology called, "From Ugly to Agri".
