On October 19, 2024, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) in partnership with Kwentoon, proudly hosted the Philippine Kids Content Festival 2024. Taking place in the Rizal Library’s 5th Floor Study Hall at Ateneo de Manila University, this vibrant event aimed to inspire local artists to craft engaging visual narratives for young audiences. Centered on themes of love for country, family, camaraderie, and hope, the festival aims to gather a community of creators committed to producing impactful, kid-friendly content.

The day began with open registration where AIPO representatives and volunteer scholars warmly welcomed attendees. Engr. Benjamin Miraso, Head of the Commercialization and Business Incubation of AIPO, officially opened the event with inspiring remarks, highlighting the significance of nurturing local talent to create meaningful content that resonates with children.

Following the opening, the program included an introduction to the AIPO and the services they offer which include Copyright registration, where participants are highly encouraged to uphold the essential principles of copyright protection. The festival also showcased the film screening of Komikero Chronicles by Keith Sicat, a documentary capturing the artistry and influence of Filipino comic creators. The screening was followed by an insightful Q&A with the director providing valuable context about the creative process behind the film.
The program also includes a talk titled "Celebrating Neurodivergence Through Books!" led by Olan Amago, co-author of Doobiedoo Asks, moderated by Ruth Catabijan from Kahel Press. This talk shares how diverse narratives can inspire young readers and promote understanding among peers. Following this powerful discussion, attendees participated in a Detective Iris-themed game, adding an interactive and fun element to the festival.
The afternoon sessions continued with a panel discussion on Comics for the Youth featuring Jamie Bautista and Macoy Tang, moderated by Mel Casipit. The panelists shared personal anecdotes and experiences that resonated with aspiring creators in the audience., Mark Mendoza from Friendly Foes also delivered an engaging talk on the Philippine Animation Industry for Young Audiences, examining how local animation can captivate young minds while nurturing pride in Filipino culture.

As the event came to a close, the organizers presented tokens of appreciation to the speakers, followed by a brief awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions to children's content. In her closing remarks, Kwentoon's CEO, Isa Songco, highlighted the day's achievements and emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration among local creators. The event concluded on a high note with a lively musical performance by Geiko, leaving attendees inspired and motivated as they departed.
