On April 5, 2025, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) was invited to take part in Ateneo Lex’s National Business Law Conference 2025, held at CTC 105 in Ateneo de Manila University. This year’s conference welcomed junior high school students from various schools across Luzon, mostly from Metro Manila and nearby provinces, offering them an engaging and accessible introduction to business law and intellectual property (IP).

As part of the “Crash Course” segment, Ms Vanessa Malapit, Head of Protection and Education at AIPO, delivered an interactive and introductory lecture tailored for young learners on the fundamentals of IP. She walked the students through the different types of intellectual property—copyright, trademark, patent, and industrial design—and emphasized how IP rights can protect creative ideas and business innovations, even at a young age.
To reinforce the discussion, participants joined a synthesis activity where they were divided into groups and asked to analyze simple, relatable IP case scenarios involving student-led businesses, original designs, and creative works. Through guided questions, they identified the type of IP involved, the issues present, and proposed their solutions based on what they learned during the session.

The activity sparked lively conversations and helped students apply their newfound knowledge to real-world situations, such as logo copying, invention protection, and copyright infringement.
AIPO is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the conference and thanks Ateneo Lex for inviting us to be part of this inspiring and educational event. We look forward to furthering our mission of promoting IP awareness among the youth and encouraging innovation at every stage.

As a brand in the customization industry, we at The American Patch truly value intellectual property protection—especially when it comes to logos and original artwork used for custom patches and embroidered products. Teaching students about IP now helps create more responsible and innovative creators in the future.
This is an excellent effort by AIPO to introduce intellectual property concepts to students at such a young age. Understanding trademarks, original designs, and creative ownership is essential—especially when students start creating logos, uniforms, or group identities. In real-world applications, items like embroidered patches, woven logo patches, and PVC patches from The Eagle Patches are often used by schools, clubs, and student organizations to protect and showcase original branding. Initiatives like this truly help future innovators value creativity and ownership.
